Chosen Vessels Ready for His Use

I read from the Valley of Vision a Puritan Prayer this morning that ended with this phrase;

            Only glorify thyself in me whether in comfort
or trial,
as a chosen vessel meet always
for thy use.

I want my life to glorify God regardless of what struggles I will endure.  I pray now with the anonymous Puritan from the next page;

that I may not be one moment apart from thee,
but may rely on thy Spirit
  to supply every thought,
  speak every word,
  direct every step,
  prosper every work,
  build up every mote of faith,
  and give me a desire
     to show forth thy praise;
     testify thy love,
     advance thy kingdom.
... Give me thy grace to sanctify me,
             thy comforts to cheer,
             thy wisdom to teach,
             thy right hand to guide,
             thy counsel to instruct,
             thy law to judge,
             thy presence to stabilize.
May thy fear be my awe,
             thy triumphs my joy.

This encapsulates being a vessel always meet for His use.

Yesterday, I was walking through my mother-in-law's garden and my youngest son shouted out; "There are mosquito larva in this bird feeder!"  I went over and dumped out the stagnant water with the festering larva and I refilled it with fresh water.

We need to be constantly refilled and stirred by the Spirit of God so that we do not become stagnant and harbor foul, infectious disease causing thoughts.

We are vessels meant to hold all the attributes of Jesus however, when we have isolated pools of thought and attitudes that we set up in the gardens of our hearts, far from the driving force of the Spirit of God, set up on a pedestal to be preserved for our own enjoyment, we fail to realize that those thoughts that are isolated from the truth of God's word become a foul breeding ground where sin and corruption grow and thrive.

There is a pure river of life that is crystal clear proceeding from the throne of God.   We must position ourselves to receive directly from the fount of God and be refilled and refreshed each and every day so that we can be receptacles of His Spirit.

Lord, help us to give up the vessels in our heart where the stream of your presence is no longer allowed because of our own idolatry.  Help us to recognize where we think there is beauty, there is actually sin breeding and lurking that is causing our words and thoughts to be tainted.  We want to be a wellspring of your presence in every work in our lives to bring you glory and honor all the days or our lives regardless of the struggles we are facing.  We tip those receptacles where we have not allowed Your power to flow into our lives and ask that you would spray away the debris that causes stagnation and foul waters to accumulate.  Help us we pray, in the Mighty name of Jesus.
