The Voice of the Lord is Like the Roar of Many Waters

I love the ocean.  Everything about it fills me with awe and wonder.  I was born in California and I can remember running on the beach at a very young age.
We have been on the coast visiting family this week and have been able to go to the  beach.  I love to smell the salty air, listen to the waves hit the sand, and I love the warm sand and warmth of the sun on my skin.

As I listen to the roar of the waves I think about the voice of the Lord.

Psalm 29:3
The voice of the LORD is over the waters,
the God of glory thunders,
the LORD, over many waters.
The voice of the LORD is powerful;
the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

Ezekiel describes the glory of the Lord as it fills the temple:

And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east.  And the sound of his coming was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory.

John describes the voice of the Lord in Revelation 1:12-15

Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lamp stands, and in the midst of the lamp stands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest.  The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow.  His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters.

And again, John describes a voice from heaven but this time he is describing those worshiping
Revelation 14:2

And I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder.  The voice I heard was like the sound of harpist playing on their harps, and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders.

There is a wellspring of praise that continually streams from heaven before the throne of God.  His majesty and precence elicits this type of response.

All of creation declares His glory and majesty!  Romans 1:19-21

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.  for his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.  So they are without excuse.  For all though they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Let us not lose sight of the God whose divine attributes and power can be perceived in the world around us.  Let us be mindful that His glory elicits our worship!  Let us honor God and give thanks to Him today so that we do not become futile in our thinking and our foolish hearts become darkened.

We are without excuse!  Let us praise the God of all creation and sing with a loud thundering voice together, declaring His greatness to a lost and dying world.  Let us be a people quick to give thanks to Him!
