Our Lives Are Really About Him

We live in culture that thrives on self exaltation.  We teach and train our children from a young age that they can do and be anything and the impetus behind that is so that they will become seen by the world as important and glorious.

The human heart is bent toward idolatry and self idolatry has taken front row as we are obsessed with selfies and pictures of our lives that emulate something special or different.

As Christians, we have the mandate to be in the world but not of the world.  We are called to be distinctly different from the ideologies of the day.

This obsession with self lends to the theme of the day that calls each of us to grow up big and glorious and do all the great and awesome things so that we are viewed by others as spectacular and glorious.

Sunflowers are big and glorious but without the sun they would not exist.  Like sunflowers, our lives should be overshadowed by God's glorious son!

As we stand in the light of His countenance, we grow gloriously strong and beautiful but our beauty should always point to His beauty.

As citizens of the kingdom of God we are called in whatever we do to bring glory to His name not our own.

Isaiah 43:7

everyone who is called by my name, who I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."

The ESV study Bible says; We are to be living proof of God's glory, which is the ultimate goal in salvation.

Ephesians 1:3-6

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing
in the heavenly places, even as HE chose us in him
before the foundation of the world,
that we should be holy and blameless before HIM.
In love HE predestined us for adoption
as sons through Jesus Christ,
according to the purpose of HIS will,
to the praise of HIS glorious grace,
with which HE has blessed us in the Beloved.
In HIM we have redemption through HIS blood,
the forgiveness of our trespasses accord to the riches
of HIS grace which HE lavished upon us,
in all wisdom and insight making known to us
the mystery of HIS will,
according to HIS purpose,
which HE set forth in Christ
as a plan for the fullness of time,
to unite all things in HIM,
things in heaven and things on earth.

You see, our lives are all about HIS-tory not ours!   He has a plan and He has chosen us to be a part of HIS glory to unite ALL things in HIM!  What a privilege!

However, we live in a culture that pushes the ideology that we are to be like God, that our image is to be exalted, that our glory is to be the primary focus of our lives.

We must resolve to not fall pray to the spirit of the age, the pride of life, because it is a damning heresy against the preeminence of Christ!

Colossians 1:15-18
He is the image of the invisible God,
the firstborn of all creation.
For by him all things were created,
in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible,
whether thrones or dominions
or rulers or authorities -
all things were created through him and for him.
And he is before all things,
and in him all things hold together.
And he is the head of the body, the church.
He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
that in everything he might be preeminent.

So if you are struggling with the meaning of life, it may have to do with your focus on self.  We are called to focus on Christ and exalt Him above all things in our lives as it is He who set everything in motion and maintains everything still.  And we are a part of HIS story!

As we realize this more and more we are able to lay down our lives for the sake of the gospel and stand with great resolve in the stream of the culture without wavering for lack of recognition or influence but resting fully in Him being exalted in our lives.

Lord, we are weak and unable to exalt You above our thoughts of ourselves.  We confess it is not actually the culture but the human heart that wants to share in Your glory.  We thank You for choosing us and ordaining our days for Your glory.  We count it a privilege to be a part of YOUR story!  Cause our lives to be overshadowed by the glorious light of Your countenance, purifying us that we would shine like the sons of Levi and declare YOUR glory as we shine!
