Run to the Secret Place!
As a little girl I was always thinking of where I could live other than home. This desire did not stem from a bad home life but a desire to live a life in the wilderness. I would imagine, in my mind as we went on long road trips, where along the way I could set up camp if I lived off the land. I had a deep longing for a secret place.
I would get lost in my mind whenever I was outside observing and interacting with creation. It was my sanctuary. I would make plans to run away and live in an abandoned train car, under my porch or on the side of a hill that we would sled down during the winter.
The other day I was walking and my neighbor, who is a 24 year old autistic 'boy', showed me his secret place.
A place where he goes where no one can see him. A place where he finds rest for his spirit. A place where he can be himself.
As we entered into his secret place the child inside me leapt. I was 9 again, peering into the naturally formed place of refuge near the water's edge.
God reminds me this morning that I must maintain this secret place. I must fight for it. The fray of life and the opposition that we receive from others and the busyness can clutter and defile our secret place like the debris left by intruders of my neighbor's secret place.
We must run to the secret place as if our lives depend upon it because they do!
God desires to meet with us in the secret enclosure of our hearts but all too often the noise of life drives us far from the solace of the secret place.
David ran there when he was being pursued by Saul.
The great news is the secret place is not far away! It is an internal turning toward God for peace, protection, solace and refreshing. A place where all our roles are diminished to one, a child of God in the presence of our Daddy. A place of rest and sanctuary where we meet with God Almighty and talk to Him face to face like a Moses did. A place where the King of Kings resides, waiting for us to enter in to His presence through the torn flesh of Jesus!
A great price was paid for us to have access to this secret place yet we live our lives like adults rather than children who are keenly aware of their need for a parent's loving care to keep them safe and at rest.
He is always waiting there! He is longing to meet with you in the secret place. Will you spend a moment with Him today? Will you run into his arms today like a child, leaving behind all your other identities? Will you be satisfied in Him and Him alone? He IS ENOUGH! HIS PRESENCE IS ENOUGH!

God answers us in the secret place.
Psalm 81:7
In distress you called, and I delivered you;
I answered you in the secret place of
thunder;
We find rest and sanctuary in the secret place.
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
We must run to the secret place as if our lives depend upon it because they do!

Would you enter in to the secret place today?
Do you hear Him?
He is saying
Come all you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest, come and sup with me, come into my garden my beloved ...
Do you hear Jesus calling you today?
"Come away with me.
Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while."
Mark 6:31
Make sure when you get there that you do not allow clutter and debris to fill your secret place. Keep it free from anxious thoughts!

Lord, you alone satisfy the deep longing of our wandering hearts! Draw us into the secret place and hold us there!
