Unpacking the Word of God Requires Association With The Spirit

Earlier this week I spoke about how our association with God's word  gives form and function to our lives, creates the identity that we live in,  and is the life-giving power that arranges our lives into a life of blessing.  This association reminded me of the DNA molecule.

The DNA molecule is a double helix that is bound together with chemical bonds that must be broken in order for the information that is stored there to come to life.  The word of God is a storehouse of information but unless God gives us insight we will not be able to decode the events that are housed in its pages.

It is impossible for someone to understand the word of God by themselves.

I Corinthians 2:14

But people who aren't spiritual can't receive these truths from God's Spirit.  It all sounds foolish to them and they can't understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.  

Much like the molecule DNA must have help from and enzyme called DNA helicase in order to unpack the information that gives way to life and all it's functions, so the Spirit of God must give understanding to the reader in order that we might unpack the information for all of life that is stored there.

If it weren't for this enzyme unzipping the double stranded helix, the information for life would never be able to be read.

If it weren't for the Spirit of God opening up the truth of God to us no one would ever have understanding of God's word!

John 6:13

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.  

He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard.  He will tell you about the future.  

The Spirit of God gives us life, He guides us into all truth, He will tell us of things to come but we must be associated with Him to gain the insight that He has to offer.  

 Romans 8:11 

The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.  And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.  

This same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside every believer!  

The wonder of what God has done through Christ Jesus is more compelling than all the details of the central dogma of molecular biology!  God lives inside of His people!  Why?  So that He can guide us and teach us and serve us and empower us to live the life that Christ died for us to live!  

Jesus said in Acts 1:8-9

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.  And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere-- in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, 

and to the ends of the earth"  

After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud 

while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.  

It was for our good and God's glory that Jesus left this earth and sent His Spirit to indwell His people so that we would proclaim the fame of His name to everyone we come in contact with.  Like my Pastor said last night, our DNA comes from Jesus but the Spirit expresses that when we have faith and trust in Christ.  

If it weren't for His presence permeating our inner workings and shaping us into His image by decoding His living word so that we can transcribe the word of God onto our hearts, we would not be capable of being His witnesses.  God has given us all of Himself in order that many would come to know Him.

Father, we thank you that you provide what we need in order to fulfill the call that you have placed on our lives.  We rest in who You are through us today.  We set aside striving and ask that you would gives us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation and the knowledge of Jesus as we read Your word.

Unpack what your Spirit has stored up for us in Your word today that it might be life giving to us and to those that we encounter.
