We Were Never Meant To Experience Death But Life Eternal

Yesterday was a sad day for my family.  We said goodbye to my 92 year old grandfather who was a WWII Navy Veteran.   As I went through the day with my family I realized the significance of Christ's birth amidst the curse of death.

The birth of Christ came at a time when all the world was shrouded in the darkness and despair of death. The curse of mankind's fall included death as the Godhead intentionally removed the tree of life from the reach of His creation.  No longer did the human race have access to life eternal.

Unfortunately, death became a part of life.  Although the reality of death has been a part of mankind's history, it is never an easy or understandable event.  Death leaves creation writhing in agony at every level.  My grandfather passed peacefully in the presence of his loving family but death is not always easy and painless.

Romans 8:22
For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.

Death always seems hopeless and intrusive regardless of the age of the deceased.  Mourners have a sense of loss and grief that does not easily dissipate.  The remnant of memories seems to be, an inadequate at best, representation of the person whose life has ended.

We were never meant to experience death.  It was never God's plan for creation to see the curse of death however, God did mean for us to experience life eternal!

When Jesus arrived in the lowliness of His creation, all were waiting and anticipating the arrival of this Messianic King.  Everything about the condescension of Christ shows forth the love of the Father toward His hurting creation.

At the glorious introduction of the birth of the Christ child, the shepherds trembled in fear.  As they fought to obey the angel who said,

"Fear not, for behold, I bring good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

I can't even fathom the fear and trepidation that filled their hearts as they stood in the presence of God's messenger.  And as they listened they trembled for their lives, they heard the message of great joy and hope in the midst of the darkness of the night.

The good news of Christmas broke in with light on these broken scene of all of mankind, where death had reigned supreme.  The hope of life eternal was ushered in by the glory of the Father that dark night.  God chose the lowliest of mankind to proclaim the message of hope to a lost, dying and cursed world.

Father, what a glorious move of your love and affection toward all of creation the day that your Son arrived on the scene in order that we might have life eternal and not have to succumb to the finality of death.
