The Harvest is Plentiful, But The Workers Are Few

I haven't been able to plant my garden this early in a long time due to a back injury a couple years ago but this spring was so warm, and I had positioned in my mind, to get a jump start on the weeds.

As I weeded and the days remained unseasonably warm, I began to plant seeds with the hope of a harvest.  Early mornings bring a bounty of provision to those who have sown in the early spring reaping the benefits of the early rains.

This morning as I was bringing in my harvest, I peered down toward the bottom of my asparagus bed and saw 2 new shoots of asparagus standing strong amidst the fury of the growing bush.

These two stout stalks remind me of how Jesus sent out His disciples two by two.

We are the gardeners that the Lord of the Harvest has left here to subdue the land and bring in the harvest.   His desire is for us to be fruitful and multiply.

We are blessed beyond measure!
Jesus said, freely you have received, freely give.

Jesus called the twelve disciples to begin their work of setting the captives free by casting out demons.  He knew that this was an important work that required teamwork that is why he sent them out two by two.

He commanded them in Matthew 10:5-8

 “...As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’  Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
As called children of God, we are blessed abundantly.  These blessings are not just for our enjoyment but for the furtherance of the kingdom of God.

We must remember that the Lord of the Harvest is with us and it is He that positions us in with the people that He sees fit to do the work of the kingdom together.

He knew the harvest would be great so He gave us a great word to remind us to not only labor together but to pray for more workers!  In Luke 10:2 Jesus says;

...The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the Harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

The harvest is the Lords!  We are His laborers and we were never meant to do this alone.  How often to we sink under the daunting task of bringing people to Christ.  We were never meant to carry that burden.  It is HIS harvest and our responsibility is to talk to Him and to work together!

How prone we are to lose sight of the big picture.  We get overwhelmed with the prospect of the harvest and so we become complacent in the task that has been set before us.  Like the two lone asparagus amongst the towering bush, we seem insignificant in the grand scheme of this foreboding task but God is with us.

Let us run the race that has been put before us, praying the Lord of the Harvest to "cast out" laborers into His harvest and as we pray expect that He will answer the effectual fervent prayers of a righteous man, made right through Christ, for His is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine!

Let us not be complacent in our prayers and pray diligently for His kingdom to come on Earth as it is in Heaven.  A rich, diverse harvest fit for a King!
