The Word of God Provides the Spiritual DNA for Our Lives

As my Pastor spoke yesterday about our association with God's word, he described the word of God as giving 'form and function to our lives', 'creating the identity that we live in',  and being the life-giving power that arranges our lives into a life of blessing.  Because form and function is a primary theme of all living organisms, my mind immediately went to the central dogma of molecular biology.

The central dogma of molecular biology describes the 2-step process by which the information stored in the molecule Deoxyribonucleic acid is used to create the functional proteins that dictate all of life as we know it.  DNA is the life dictating molecule in every living cell that carries the necessary genetic instructions for growth, development, function and reproduction of all known living organisms.

Genetic information stored in DNA is transcribed and then translated to produce specific proteins.  These proteins, once produced, take on a specific shape or form that in turn dictates the protein's specific function and how it will associate with other molecules that will in turn produce the necessary components for life as we know it.

Like these proteins produced by our cell's DNA have a specific form and function so the word of God has the ability to change the DNA of our hearts, creating the identity that we live in by changing the products of our lives, and being the life giving power that arranges our lives into a life of blessing.

The Word of God shapes our thoughts in a way that we are conformed into the image of God as we allow the Spirit of God to do the rearranging work that is necessary to reconstruct the spiritual DNA of or lives.

Without daily feeding on the scriptures, our lives cannot be vibrant, life filled and life producing blessings to those around us.  We turn off the spiritual translation when we do not allow our hearts to associate with the necessary instructions for our lives.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching,
for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete,
 equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16

For whatever was written in former days
was written for our instruction,
that through endurance and through the encouragement
of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Romans 15:4

The DNA of the Word of God produces the protein of hope!  Hope shapes and forms our heart's response to those around us as well as of God.

A life devoid of the Word of God comes under the mutating force of the world's DNA and then becomes conformed into the molecular pattern of the world.

Believers are called to be transformed by the renewal of our minds.

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world,
but be transformed by the renewal of your mind,
that by testing you may discern what is the will of God,
what is good and acceptable and perfect.

This renewal can only come from God.  The fabric of our lives will be dictated by our spiritual DNA.  If we are living our lives outside of the Word of God then our lives will reflect a worldly DNA but if our lives are shaped by the DNA of God's word then we will live lives that produce hope, and life instead of fear and anxiety.

Abba, help us to keep our minds and hearts in your word so that our spiritual DNA will provide  form and function, creating our identities in Christ so that we will have the life giving power that arranges our  lives into lives of blessing and hope.
